More and more European tourists are finding their way to Las Terrenas, a popular coastal town on the Samaná Peninsula of the Dominican Republic. Besides a vibrant international community and several fun beach bars, you will also find the well-known beach "Playa Bonita." On this postcard-worthy beach, you'll find Mosquito Boutique Hotel*, where you can totally unwind among all the palm trees and the sound of breaking waves.

The calm and shallow waters of Playa Bonita make it an excellent spot for swimming and relaxation.

Mosquito Boutique Hotel

Although you can find some beautiful airbnb and condos along the coastline of Playa Bonita, Mosquito Boutique Hotel* is a favorite with many visitors to the city.

With a choice of four different rooms, price starting at US$90 per night, you'll find yourself in a casual tropical, lively atmosphere just steps from the beach. The rooms themselves are decorated in a very minimalist style with some blue accents and overlook the courtyard located on the beach. The building itself features charming French colonial architecture.

During the day, you can go there to relax on the beach or sip a few cocktails while your partner adventurously braves the waves on a surfboard. For breakfast, lunch and dinner you can visit the open-air restaurant on the beach with delicious fresh fusion dishes prepared by a Peruvian chef.

On weekends they also provide fun music parties and a market with local entrepreneurs. The courtyard with beach chairs, bar and restaurant are open to everyone. So you have access to their infrastructure both as a guest of the hotel and as a visitor.

Excursions and activities

So at the location itself, you can enjoy fun parties on weekends, and you can also visit Carolina Surf School there daily if you like to learn to surf. Or if you are already experienced, you can of course just borrow a surfboard there too!

In addition to enjoying a fun beach vacation, you can plan many natural and adventurous excursions near Las Terrenas, and in Samaná itself. Think about a visit to the nature park Los Haitises, Ziplining through the palm trees, a visit to the waterfall El Limón and if you visit the island in February or March, we recommend booking a day trip to the Bay of Samaná. There you can go whale watching during that particular period. You can combine whale watching with a visit to Cayo Levantado.

Together with Flora Tours (our personal favorite in Las Terrenas) you are guaranteed an unforgettable experience. Nicolas, the owner, also speaks French, by the way!

And last but lot least: if you're looking for a relaxing massage or spa day, Hammam Kef will be your place to be! Also owned by the Mosquito Group, this wellness offers you haven of tranquility in the heart of the city. You can go here for a traditional Arabic bath, Signature Treatments, Massages and even facials. So be sure to add it to your to-do list when being around.

Food and bars

Las Terrenas, like many coastal towns in the Dominican Republic, offers a diverse and flavorful culinary scene that combines elements of Dominican, Caribbean, and international cuisines. Either way, you will always find a place where you lose your hard.

Our favorites are:

- Brunch/Lunch: Sol and Fresh or Tropik Bowl are our top favorites for a healthy and fresh start to the day. By the way, at Mosquito Boutique hotel you can have a delicious breakfast with your reservation. It is varied and super fresh!

- Dinner: If you are a meat lover, you can find the most delicious pizzas and churrasco at "La Yuca Caliente." "El Lugar" and "Porto by Mosquito" are also recommended. The latter restaurant belongs to the same owner as the hotel.

- Sweets: "Dulce de Oro" for the most delicious coffee cakes and pastries and "Les Blondes" for the typical thin French pancakes. They serve both savory and sweet pancakes there.

- Coffee Bars: La Bodega, located on the drive to Playa Bonita is a small store, or "Colmado" as they call it locally, where you can go not only for groceries, but also to have a coffee with friends. Are you in the center itself? Then have a cozy coffee at Dulce de Oro, where they serve delicious pastries. Double win!
